They say the best things in life are free, so here are a few London date ideas that won’t cost a penny.
1. A romantic stroll along the Southbank
One of London’s best pedestrian walkways, the Thames, the moonlight, conversation… what more do you need? There’s also plenty of interesting stop-offs possible along the way, not least the Tate Modern, which is free admission.
2. Go to a food market
An amble around one of London’s food markets can be a very pleasant way to spend an hour. Take in the sights, smells and (most importantly) samples while chatting away to your date. The likes of Borough Market and Spitalfields are very popular and enjoyable, but do get crowded. You might like to seek out a newer or less well known venue.
3. Take in some art Saatchi Gallery
We’ve already mentioned the Tate Modern and the excellent Saatchi Gallery is almost here to represent all London’s galleries, many of which include free entry. If it’s early days in the relationship, maybe make the date a particular collection rather than an entire gallery.
4. Free music at St Martin’s In the Field
There’s free music to be found all over London, but the regular free lunchtime concerts available at St Martin’s In The Field, near Trafalgar Square, are among the best known. Since they’re well established, you will find that there is something on offer most weeks (usually multiple concerts in a single week).
5. The Wallace Collection
Of course, London has any number of museums to choose from but we’re singling out The Wallace Collection since they’re practically our neighbours. You can enjoy Old Master paintings, French 18th century paintings, furniture and porcelain among other things.
And if the date doesn’t go well you can always nip round the corner to Drawing Down The Moon to start arranging your next date!
