Welcome to the month of January 2017; a bitterly cold reality check as we catapult out of the salacious haze of the festive season into self-improvement, resolutions, rejuvenation and new beginnings. It is OK if you are yet to feel like a golden god or goddess, It is OK if you have accidently had a glass of wine and broken your dry January vow, it is OK because 2017 is going to be your year of love !
A Fresh Start and it is all about YOU
Fear not, that post-Christmas coma and the sluggish cocoon you are channelling shall soon subside. A New Year presents a glimmering opportunity to focus on you and to be the best version of yourself possible. Overall we are drawn to those who possess the qualities of our ideal selves; funny, kind, ambitious, and gym bunny (!) – the list goes on. Write a list of the things that are most important to you in a potential partner and think about whether you embody these qualities. You do not have to sign up to a mindfulness course or a block of spinning classes but January is the perfect time to consider any positive changes you could perhaps make to enhance your dating in 2017. You are a walking mirror; like attracts like!
Learn from Yesterday, Live for Today, Hope for Tomorrow.
Feeling disillusioned by a string of bad dates or a past relationship in 2016? To quote Frozen, it is time to “Let it Go”. We often have a tendency to feel burnt out when it doesn’t work out but dwelling on past dating disasters is not condusive to a sparkling love life this year. We learn from the dating disappointments; they prepare you for something better. These experiences heighten your understanding of what you do not want and help you to gravitate towards that special person. It is positive to start a new year having learnt from the past but be ready to leave it firmly in 2016 where it belongs!
As matchmakers we have heard every item on the perfect match shopping list a thousand times; From “I only want to date men who are 6’5 because I am 5’3 and must wear heels” to the more esoteric criteria -“They must be Gemini Scandinavians”. Everyone is deserving of a great match, but let’s be realistic– a carbon copy of David Gandy is narrowing your search down considerably. It is great to have a picture of the type of person you would like to meet. However, if holding out for Prince Charming has hindered your dating opportunities in the past, it may be time for a reality check. You can rule out loads of great matches waiting in the wings whilst you are blinkered by the focus on the “Perfect Match”.
You Never know What Magic Is Round the Corner
Dating requires energy, especially in January. It gets dark at 4.30pm and venturing out into the drizzly abyss to meet a potential match for a glass of wine sometimes feels daunting. To be present, looking fresh and pretending that you are not completely disillusioned by swiping left and right is sometimes hard work. However, this is not the case in January because everyone is in “kick start” mode, surrounded by a mystical “2017 aura” of hopefulness and positivity. The fireworks and the New Year countdown have set a mental memo to every singleton across the Globe; Dating should be fun, light-hearted and uplifting, and it certainly is!
Happy New Year from all of the Matchmakers at Drawing Down the Moon
