Matchmaker Approved First Date Outfit Tips

What to wear on a date

So, we’ve been over the basics on what to wear on a date before: keep it smart but comfortable, don’t bare too much flesh, make sure it’s CLEAN etc. Today we want to discuss colour options with you. The colours you choose affect not just you, but those around you too. Some draw people in, some send out rather off-putting signals. So what does your choice of colour say about you?

RED – Always makes a lasting impression. It represents energy, ambition and sexual passion. The most emotionally intense colour red stimulates a faster heartbeat and breathing. Practically screaming confidence, people who wear red are generally memorable.

BLACK – Has always been considered mysterious, powerful and perhaps a little intimidating. Although associated with wealth and elegance, we certainly wouldn’t recommend being clothed head-to-toe in black. Apart from looking positively funereal, it may signal that you are unapproachable.

BLUE – A very popular colour. Associated with trust, peace, loyalty and considered relaxing, blue may not be the most exciting of colours but it won’t put people off. A word of caution – avoid navy – it’s seen as authoritative and can discourage a date to open up.

PINK – Flattering to the complexion, pink is the colour of unconditional love and nurturing. It can make men feel quite protective towards a woman, but be wary and steer clear of too much baby pink which can seem childish and immature.

GREEN – Calming and fresh, this colour can indicate self-reliance, growth and balance. It shows generosity and a willingness to share, but can indicate a desire for recognition.

WHITE – (which for obvious reasons is in black text here) Symbolizing innocence and purity, white reflects light, is neutral and goes with everything. Again it’s not recommended to wear too much as it can be considered quite sterile – not what you want to be considering on a date.

YELLOW – Cheerful and sunny yellow is an attention getter and enhances concentration (hence yellow legal pads).

PURPLE – The colour of royalty, purple is associated with opulence, sophistication and wealth. Whilst also being feminine and romantic, because it is rare in nature, purple can appear artificial.

Obviously we could go on and on discussing many more colours and the innumerable shades of each, but you’re busy people and we’ve covered the basics here. Take a look at your wardrobe. Is your favourite/lucky date dress/shirt working for reason? Or can you see why that baby pink sweater had him running fast in the other direction?
